Papa Murphy’s Vegan Options

Papa Murphy’s is a take-and-bake pizza company based in America. It is considered in the top five largest pizza chains in the United States, with over 1,300 stores over the country.

Papa Murphy’s is one of the only food companies that offers a list of their ingredients on their website, which is refreshing to see. This makes it much easier for people who follow a vegan diet to know what they can and cannot order from the menu.

A take-and-bake franchise is one that prepares the pizzas in store, but is picked up while it is uncooked and then cooked at home by the customer. Papa Murphy’s does not have that many vegan-friendly options, but there are still some things that you can purchase and enjoy.

Below we are going to be looking at all of the vegan options available to purchase at Papa Murphy’s.

Garden Veggie Pizza

The Garden Veggie pizza is made up of:

  • Original Crust
  • Traditional Sauce
  • Mozzarella
  • Roma Tomatoes
  • Mushrooms
  • Black Olives
  • Green Peppers
  • Onion Mix

As you may have noticed, the Garden Veggie pizza has cheese included within the list of components. However, Papa Murphy’s luckily offers a service where you can substitute ingredients and therefore you can remove the cheese to make it vegan-friendly.

Gourmet Vegetarian Pizza

The Gourmet Vegetarian pizza comes with:

  • Original Crust
  • Gourmet White Sauce
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Artichoke Hearts
  • Roma Tomatoes
  • Topping Cheese (Mozzarella and Cheddar)
  • Zucchini
  • Mushrooms
  • Spinach
  • Onion Mix
  • Herb and Cheese Blend

Again, there are multiple cheese-based ingredients on this pizza. However, there are some steps that can be taken to make this pizza vegan-friendly. These steps are as follows:

  1. Replace Gourmet White Sauce with a vegan-friendly sauce
  2. Remove the Mozzarella Cheese
  3. Remove Topping Cheese
  4. Remove the Herb and Cheese Blend.

While it is possible to remove these ingredients from this pizza to make it vegan, we think that it’s important to note that you could technically remove ingredients from any pizza to make it vegan.

Even the Meat Feast pizza could be made to be vegan-friendly if you made enough amendments.

Create-Your-Own Pizza

There is also the option to create your own pizza at Papa Murphy’s, in which you can choose between a number of vegan-friendly components. You can choose your own crust, sauces, and toppings.

Papa Murphy’s does not have any vegan cheese options available, so your pizza will be without cheese. You can decide whether it’s worth eating a pizza without a cheese alternative or not.

An advantage of the take-and-bake system is that you can take the pizza home with you and add your own cheese at home if you want to.

Crust

The crust options you have to choose from are as follows:

  • Original Crust
  • Stuffed Crust
  • Thin Crust

Sauce

The sauce options at your disposal are as follows:

  • Burger Sauce
  • Pomace Olive Oil and Garlic
  • Traditional Red Sauce
  • Barbecue Sauce
  • Marinara Sauce
  • Sweet Chilli Sauce

Toppings

And finally, the toppings you have to choose from are as follows:

  • Artichoke Hearts
  • Chopped Garlic
  • Roma Tomatoes
  • Green Peppers
  • Mushrooms
  • Pickles
  • Roasted Garlic
  • Sun Dried Tomatoes
  • Zucchini
  • Black Olives
  • Crushed Red Pepper
  • Green Onions
  • Jalapenos
  • Onion Mix
  • Pineapple
  • Spinach
  • Zesty Herb Blend

What about the rest of the menu?

Papa Murphy’s also offers appetizers, salads, and desserts to their customers. However, all of these contain dairy and are packaged before purchasing so you cannot make them vegan-friendly. So, you will have to stick to pizza and skip the rest of your meal.

Papa Murphy’s does offer a drink menu that houses vegan-friendly drinks such as soft drinks and hot drinks.

Summary

Overall, Papa Murphy’s is not the best US based restaurant chain in terms of vegan-friendly options. However, you can create your own pizza with your favorite toppings and sauce. You can also adjust the premade pizzas to make them vegan-friendly.

The good thing about take-and-bake pizzas is that you can take them home and add your own vegan cheese on top before baking.

The appetisers, salads, and desserts that Papa Murphy’s offers are not considered vegan, so you can only have a pizza from Papa Murphy’s. Hopefully in the future Papa Murphy’s will add a few more vegan-friendly options onto their menu so that we don’t have to substitute so much.
