Kristen Suzannee’s Raw Food has created a video teaching us how to grow sprouts! Raw sprouts are an excellent form of nutrition that can allow us to maintain a balanced raw vegan lifestyle.
Kristen Suzanne’s informative and fun video on growing sprouts shows us the entire process, including the day to day growth of the sprouts! If you have been feeling stuck about growing your own sprouts, this video will take all of the mystery out of it, so we can have sprouts of our own! Check out the notes at the bottom of this post and you will have no problem getting started with your own sprouts!
-1 dish rack
-a towel to collect dripped water
-3 glass mason jars
-3 screw lids with screens (Kristen Suzanne prefers the wire mesh lid screens)
-2 tblsp alfalfa seeds
-2 tblsp broccoli seeds
-1/4 c. alfalfa seeds
-Use larger jars for the alfalfa and broccoli seeds
-fill the small jar with mung seeds
-use filtered water to fill the jars half way
-gently tap the seeds and use your finger to break up the seeds that stick at the edge of the water
-let the seeds sit for 8 hours
— 8 hours later —
-drain off the water
-all the seeds will be at the bottom because they want to be together, so shake the jar a little bit
-place the jars upside down on an angle on the dish rack so the last drops can drip out
(placing the jars on an angle allows the air to circulate)
-let the seeds sit overnight
— 12 hours later —
-fill a portion of the jar with water, gently swirl the water, then drain
-repeat once or twice a day depending on the seeds’ dryness, which also depends on the amount of humidity in your area
Kristen Suzanne rinses her seeds twice a day
In the video, the mung sprouts are harvested on the 3rd day
and the alfalfa and broccoli sprouts are harvested on the 3rd night
Remember to use this as a guide to play around with different seeds, and to find local seeds in your area!
